“Foam Is King” 👑
I challenge you all to try and sink this fly – and yes, I’ll need photo evidence if you actually manage to!
Jokes aside, I can truly recommend this pattern. The foam body combined with Kapok dubbing makes the "Floating Caddis" almost unsinkable. It rides high and stable on the surface, exactly how a proper dry fly should.
For those who didn’t already know, Kapok is hands down the best material for dry flies thanks to its incredible buoyancy. The legs are made from a blend of Kapok and Pure Squirrel Dubbing, adding just the right amount of life and movement in the surface film.
Perfect for simply casting into the current and letting it drift freely, or stripping it back across the surface of a lake when the fish are calmly feeding. One of those flies you tie on, lean back, and trust.
All materials are linked below, along with a tying tutorial from FliesbyAspeen, who once again shows off some serious creativity!
Psst: Ask the Fly Expert “Floating Caddis” for a complete materials list — it stays saved as you browse the site.
