Nattslända med CDC och Hot Spot Thread

Caddis with CDC and Hot Spot-Thread

There are certain flies that makes me think – this one is going to catch a lot of fish.
This caddis from Fliesbyemet is exactly one of those.

There’s something about the overall look.
That slightly messy, lifelike body. The airy CDC underwing. And then the elk hair that really gives the fly that classic silhouette – while keeping it floating exactly the way I want a dry fly to.

And then there’s the detail that really stands out.

The hot spot.

That small touch does more than you might think. It can imitate an egg, act as a trigger point, or simply break things up – but whatever it does, it works.
It’s one of those subtle elements that often makes the difference when fish are a bit selective and you need something extra.

And that’s exactly why this fly is so good.

It feels alive. Slightly messy. Just a little too real to ignore.

When do I fish it?

This is a classic go-to when caddis are active – but also a fly I’ll happily tie on when nothing really seems to be happening.

  • Fish it high in the surface film – it floats like a cork
  • Perfect for streams where you want reliable buoyancy
  • Deadly in stillwater – try stripping it across the surface
