CDC is a hugely underrated material in my opinion, and it has so many applications that it's almost ridiculous!
Thanks to its incredible buoyancy, it's a go-to material for dry flies, and this is a pattern you simply have to try if you—just like me—love dry fly fishing.
The body is kept relatively simple to let the CDC take center stage.
The wing and thorax create a beautiful silhouette, while the material adds a natural movement that truly comes to life as the fly drifts freely in the current.
Coq de Leon is a premium material that I love using for dry fly tails. For this pattern, remember to keep the fibers slightly shorter than usual since it's an emerger.
This is also a pattern that is both quick and enjoyable to tie.
With just a handful of materials, you can create an incredibly effective fly that will produce fish throughout much of the season.
I've listed all the materials below so you can give it a try yourself, along with a step-by-step tying tutorial from Fliesbyaspeen that shows exactly how to create this classic pattern!
